چکیده

Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) provide solutions for implementation of lightweight Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). UDDI extension for WSRP enables the discovery and access to user facing web services provided by business partners while eliminating the need to design local user facing portlets. Most importantly, the remote portlets can be updated by web service providers from their own servers. Remote portlet consumers are not required to make any changes in their portals to accommodate updated remote portlets. This approach results in easier team development, upgrades, administration, low cost development and usage of shared resources. Furthermore, with the growing interest in SOA, WSRP should cooperate with service bus (ESB).In this paper, the author examines the technical underpinning of the UDDI extensions for WSRP (user facing remote web services) and their role in service sharing among business partners. The author also briefly outlines the architectural view of using WSRP in enterprise integration tasks and the role Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). DOI: 10.4018/978-1-4666-0336-3.ch005

User Facing Web Services in Portals

In SOA framework, Portal applications aggregate and render information from multiple sources in easily consumable format to the end users. Web services seem to dominate the integration efforts in SOA. Traditional data-oriented web services require portlet applications to provide specific presentation logic and the communication interface for each web service. This approach is not well suited to...

Using WSRP 2.0 with JSR 168 and 286 Portlets

WSRP—Web Services for Remote Portlets—specification builds on current standard technologies, such as WSDL (Web Services Definition Language), UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery and Integration), and SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol). It aims to solve the problem of traditional data oriented web services which required the applications to be aggregated prior to any specific presentation l...

Towards Dynamic Integration: Deployment of UDDI Registries in a Service-Oriented Architecture

The important premise of adopting service-oriented architecture (SOA) is the ability to increase enterprise agility through composition and reuse of coarsegrained services. However, without dynamic integration and alignment with business processes SOA would be nothing but yet another abstract architecture proposal. The response to that issue is Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (...

Combining SAWSDL, OWL-DL and UDDI for Semantically Enhanced Web Service Discovery

UDDI registries are included as a standard offering within the product suite of any major SOA vendor, serving as the foundation for establishing design-time and run-time SOA governance. Despite the success of the UDDI specification and its rapid uptake by the industry, the capabilities of its offered service discovery facilities are rather limited. The lack of machineunderstandable semantics in...

Information Services for Grid/Web Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Based Geospatial Applications

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) presents data-intensive environment for acquiring, processing and sharing geo-data among interested parties. In order to serve geographical information to users in such environment, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles have gained great importance. In SOA-based systems, Information Services support the discovery and handling of these geospatial s...
